FAI Chicago was founded in 2007 by a group of dedicated local parents who wanted to heighten food allergy awareness while raising funds to find a cure. Every FAI Chicago member has a child with a life-threatening food allergy, has a life-threatening food allergy, or is a doctor who treats food-allergic patients. We urge friends, families, and medical professionals throughout the Chicago area to become involved in our efforts. In addition to raising funds for cutting-edge food allergy research around the world, we are committed to training and educating schools, day care centers, and camps throughout our area on how to ensure the safety of food-allergic children while in their care.
FAI Chicago currently provides funding for three important studies:
- The development of a Chinese herbal therapy that may prevent life-threatening reactions to peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish.
- A tracking study of 640 infants over five years to determine whether or not early exposure to peanuts will prevent the development of peanut allergy.
- A study of the role of a newly discovered inflammatory chemical in food allergy.
In addition, FAI Chicago is supporting important community education programs at Children's Memorial Hospital.
