Food Allergy Project/FAI Merger
In February 2009, FAI announced an exciting merger with The Food Allergy Project (FAP). FAP was founded in 2006 by Denise and David Bunning, Chicago-area parents of two young boys who have struggled with life-threatening food allergies since infancy. For Denise and David, like millions of other parents, food allergy is more than an inconvenience—it is a matter of life and death. The severity of their children’s food allergies and the knowledge that food allergies are affecting more and more families every day turned them into public advocates for food allergy research funding. Denise, a former elementary school teacher, and David, a businessman, dedicated their efforts through FAP to supporting important scientific research in search of a cure, and to encouraging the nation’s decision-makers to increase the resources dedicated to food allergy research.
The newly merged organization, which operates under the FAI name, represents the largest private source of funding for food allergy research in the United States, and will serve as a voice for millions of families to call on the federal government and private sources to collaborate in search of a cure.
Prior to the merger, The Food Allergy Project produced a powerful 12-minute DVD to educate and motivate audiences all over the country.
